The Oscar Award winning stunning English actress and singer Kate Winslet entered the showbiz with the television show "Shrinks" in 1991. She performed in many period pieces such as "Sense and Sensibility", "Jude", "Titanic" and many more which won her many Awards and Nominations. New York Magazine named her as "the best English-speaking film actress of her generation.
Kate Winslet decided she wanted to act professionally at age 11. While studying drama at the Redroofs Theatre School, she bagged her first acting job in 1987, dancing with the Honey monster in a TV ad for Sugar Puffs cereal. The following year, the young Kate Winslet made her TV debut in the British series “Shrinks,” followed by several appearances on BBC shows such as “Dark Season,” “Get Back,” and “Casualty.”
By 1992, Winslet has landed a bigger role in the made-for-TV movie “Anglo-Saxon Attitudes.” However, it was her leading role in the 1994 critically acclaimed Peter Jackson movie “Heavenly Creatures” that made Kate Winslet a star. In 1995, she co-starred with Marianne Dashwood in the movie “Sense and Sensibility,” which led to her first Oscar nomination as ‘Best Supporting Actress’ and won a BAFTA for ‘Best Supporting Actress.’ That same year, Kate played the female lead in “Jude,” followed by the movie adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” in 1996.
Kate Winslet earned international stardom when she worked with James Cameron in the 1997 blockbuster “Titanic,” playing the character Rose alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack. The film received 14 Oscar nominations, including the ‘Best Actress’ award for Kate. She then decided to go back to making independent films in movies such as “Holy Smoke” and “Hideous Kinky.”
By 2000, Kate Winslet was back to making hit films such as “Quills” and “Iris,” which led to her third Oscar nomination. She then voiced a character in the animated feature “A Christmas Carol,” which soundtrack “What If” feature Winslet and landed the Top Ten single in Great Britain. In 2003, Kate Winslet starred in “The Life of David Gale.” The following year, she worked with Jim Carrey in the award-winning movie “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” which earned Winslet ‘Best Actress’ nominations from the SAG, Oscars and Golden Globe Awards.
In 2004, Kate Winslet starred opposite Johnny Depp in “Finding Neverland,” followed by the musical feature “Romance & Cigarettes” in 2005. Proving her impressive acting range, Winslet starred in the 2006 romantic comedy “The Holiday” alongside Jack Black. That same year, she received an Emmy nomination for her guest appearance in the HBO series “Extras,” starred in the award-winning movie “Little Children” and appeared in the film “All the Kings Men.”
In 2008, Kate Winslet won several awards for her performance in “The Reader,” which included Best Actress awards from both the Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. That same year, she reunited with Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie “Revolutionary Road,” where she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress (Drama). |
